Broken Bow, Oklahoma, in the far southeastern corner of the state and approximately 30 miles from the Texas and Arkansas borders, is home to the ever popular Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow Lake, Kiamichi Mountains and Ouachita National Forest.

Originally part of the old Choctaw Indian Nation, Broken Bow is home today to high yield forestry business, large poultry operations and farming and plays host to approximately 1,500,000 tourists a year.

The first stop for many visitors is Beavers Bend State Park, less than a four hour drive from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Shreveport. The park is renowned for its wonderful hiking trails, spectacular scenery, trophy fly fishing in pristine streams or in the Mountain Fork River, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding and bald eagle watching. Within the confines of the park, there is also a swim beach, miniature golf and train and paddle boats for the younger set. The park plays host to the annual Owa-Chito Festival in June and November’s Fall Festival, along with numerous special events throughout the year. The Forest Heritage Center houses one of the country’s finest wood art collections. Broken Bow Lake, a 10 minute drive from the park’s entrance, boasts almost 15000 acres of clear water and 218 miles of shoreline and offers fabulous fishing and boating opportunities. Deer, duck, quail, wild boar and turkey hunting are close by, as are trails for four wheeling. The 18 hole Cedar Creek Golf Course, open to the public, is just 11 miles north off of Route 259. Gambling enthusiasts will find casinos in Broken Bow and neighboring Idabel, and the Hochatown area is home to the local winery and casual and fine dining establishments.

The state parks offer rustic cabins, tent and RV camping sites for short term rental. Several motels are in the immediate area as well as a growing number of privately owned cabins. Starting about 15 years ago, heavily wooded parcels near the state park and lake were purchased by private developers, roads cut and utilities installed. Deed and non deed restricted subdivisions came into being and individual building lots offered for sale. With a number of cabin management companies now operating in the area, a number of property owners are enjoying the benefits of vacation/second home ownership while relishing the cash flow generated by placing their cabins on the weekend/short term rental market.
